About

We can’t wait to see you at the 2018 Show, to be held at Pilch Farm between Buckingham and Milton Keynes.

The Venue – Adstockfields Farm

Adstockfields is 525 hectares (1300 acres) of farmland and woodland, most of it is owner occupied with about 55 hectares (140 acres) tenanted Glebe land owner by the Oxford Diocese. The Nicholsons purchased the farm in 1970 and have farmed since then with a mix of dairy and arable until 2010 when the 200 cow dairy herd was sold. A small herd of beef cattle is kept today to graze the permanent pasture and the remainder of the farm, 470 hectares (1160 acres) is a mix of oil seed rape, wheat, barley and winter beans.

In 2012 the new grain facility was built at Pilch farm, the site of the YFC County show. The old facility at Adstockfields is old and too small for the expanded arable unit. Having decided to invest in new equipment and buildings it seemed sensible to build enough capacity to be able to take in third party grain for drying, cleaning, fumigation and short term storage. 2012 harvest was certainly the right year to start the new enterprise; the facility has been busy right through to Spring 2018.

The addition of the laboratory to the enterprise provides the grain analysis ability required in order to be TASCC assured. This lab is run by Verity Webster, Amanda Nicholson’s daughter. The association with Adstock Bulk Solutions, the haulage business owned and run by Fergus O’Kelly from Pilch Farm, has helped to develop the new grain business by providing the complete package to move, treat and hold grain.

The whole Nicholson family welcome Buckinghamshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs to their farm and wish members every success for their County Show in 2018.
